About ITCH History
|
The history of ITCH is the history of its founder Ken Stoner History: | Part I | Part II | This was when in 92 I joined the BCS Disability Group's Board, as they were thinking of something on similar lines, so became the Project Leader of what was to become the 'I.T. Can-Help' Network. I worked for two years developing my scheme, then in 1994 we launched a Pilot Study of three Counties, Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire. With these three Counties we operated for about 18 months, gaining a valuable insight into the costs of running such a scheme by the Group, and whether we could attract sufficient computer literate Volunteers, to run it effectively. This period of operating just the three Counties, proved there was indeed a definite need for this type of scheme, by the number of disabled clients helped. It also proved the BCS - Disability Group could not finance a countrywide scheme of 70 County Panels, from existing membership income, so we would need to run a fund-raising appeal to gain additional finance. This was called the "Ability" Appeal, which ran for just over the year and raised something in the order of £50,000 for various Projects run by the Group. If we are going to meet our aim of getting all 70 Counties operational by end of the year 2002, we will need far more funding to achieve this and keep them all functioning well into the 21st Century.
