About IT Can Help
Who’s behind the Network?
ITCanHelp is a programme of AbilityNet, a national charity helping disabled adults and children use computers and the internet by adapting and adjusting their technology. They provide service and support to the community, including individual practitioners, employers of IT staff and the general public.
ITCanHelp originally began life as I.T.-Can-Help. The project was devised by Ken Stoner, who was himself severely disabled by Motor Neurone Disease. Ken Stoner joined the Board of BCS Disability Group (BCS-DG) in 1992. Sadly Ken passed away in 2006 and you can read his obituary by clicking "here". The project was launched in 1994 following a two year development programme. ITCanHelp aims to address the current shortfall in the availability of technical assistance for disabled people using computers.
The programme is funded through the Social Responsibility Committee of BCS, with additional support since 2006/7 from the Marchday Trust.
